Whole Wheat Tortillas
I have finally perfected my tortilla recipe. It makes a dozen tortillas.
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt (I use just a tad less)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 1/8 cups water
6 Tablespoons oil
Mix together the dry ingredients.
Measure out the water into a measuring cup and then add the oil to the water. Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and mix well. I use my fingers and push the flour into the wet dough. There might be some flour remaining in the bowl when the dough is no longer sticky.
Seperate dough into 12 balls and roll out individually or press with a tortilla press.
Heat an ungreased griddle to medium heat than drop to medium-low to cook the tortillas. I hand pull the dough a bit more before placing on the griddle. It takes about 30 seconds on each side to completely cook each tortilla.
